Festive Edit

Festive edit, 2018
The non-festive, festive edit.

Do you remember the first time you picked an outfit for yourself? Chose what to wear for an occasion? When do we make the transition from our mother dressing us up to making our own choices? Clothes are such an important part of our personality. It has been a way of communication since the beginning of civilization. It’s beautiful how fashion is a part of a collective society and yet so personal.

How many times do we feel unlike ourselves during festivities? We are made to wear ‘festive’ clothes. Bright and mostly heavy. Some are naturally inclined to it and some just aren’t. And some of us who naturally don’t take to a lot of shine and bling but want to dress for a special occasion are left with very less options. Thus, the festive edit. Even though we call it festive edit because these are a little heavier than what we usually do, I personally like to refer to it as the non-festive, festive edit. It is great that our country is so diverse and we celebrate life. We enjoy our culture and embrace it. We also need to understand that only wearing ethnic clothes isn’t equivalent to representing. Understanding our beautiful craft, appreciating the artisans, loving the community and representing is more important and speaks much more about our roots.

Eternally grateful for these wonderful people who always bring out the best in what I make. Apoorva Amaresh, for being the perfect muse. Arvind Sridhar, for understanding why I do what I do and giving Dori much more than I could ask for. Thank you all you lovely people for giving so much love to this collection.
